Spain 2017

This trip includes several days in Barcelona, some time in Alcala de Henares, and a day-trip to Toledo.  Surely too short, but one must take what's available.

Alcala de Henares

Statue of Don Quixote and Sancho

    Alcala de Henares

45 minutes east of Madrid, Alcala de Henares is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes and Holy Roman Emperor Ferndinand I.  Its days as a university town go back over 700 years.  And, it's also the stork capitol of Spain.

    Toledeo

      Toledo

A quick train-ride from Madrid, Toledo is compact and filled with religious buildings and museums.  The Alcazar gets negative reviews for being so big, but it's worthwhile for those interested in military history.

      Barcelona

        Barcelona

Too many good things to say about Barcelona here.  One tip: the Metro is very efficient and clean.

        Barcelona Gaudi Influence

          Barcelona's Antoni Gaudi

A central figure in the Barcelona Modernista movement, Gaudi's influence is seen across Barcelona.  His life was cut short (ironically, given the above comment on Barcelona) when he was hit by a tram.
