Bavaria & Bohemia 2022

Finally, after three failed trips we reach Prague.  There's a lot to see there, and we took a picture of every single thing.  Plus on the way back to Frankfurt we stop at several nice Bavarian towns.  BTW, September is a great time to be here.

Prague (CZ)

    Prague

The capital of the Czech Republic, and before that Bohemia, Prague straddles the Vltava River.  Packed with sights and attractions, one could spend months there.  We spent five days but made the most of our limited time there, taking easily 10 days’ worth of photos.

    Kutná Horą (CZ)

      Kutná Horą

An easy day trip from Prague, one can find an ossuary, the Sedlec Abbey, a medieval silver mine in the quaint village of Kutná Hora.  Kutná Hora is a quick car, train, or bus ride from the big city, and provides a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Prague.

      Nuremberg (DE)

        Nuremberg

Bavaria’s second city (after Munich), Nuremberg is home to much history, including a castle and several fine churches.  Nuremberg is also famous for its festivals. While the Christkindlesmarkt (Christmas Market) gets most of the attention, twice yearly Volksfest is a lot of fun.  Our visit coincided with the fall version of that as well as a citywide flea market, as seen in our photos.

        Regensburg (DE)

          Regensburg

A worthwhile daytrip from Nuremberg, Regensburg has history dating back nearly 2,000 years.  It’s home to the finest Gothic cathedral in Bavaria, as well as many other attractions. Like many other Bavarian towns and cities, there’s a fall festival to celebrate the harvest season.  And, we have pictures.

          Bamberg (DE)

            Bamberg

Another daytrip from Nuremberg, Bamberg has the requisite cathedral.  Near the cathedral there’s a delightful rose garden with excellent views of the town.  Bamberg’s unique landmark is its Altes Rathaus (former city hall) that is built between two canals.
